In the opening match of the preseason tournament hosted by the Portland Timbers at JELD-WEN Field, it was Sweden’s AIK taking the victory by a 2-0 score over Chivas USA.

After AIK seemed to be a bit surprised by the physical early play by Chivas USA, they would take the lead late in the first half when Viktor Lundberg blasted a shot into the upper left corner, possibly kissing the inside of the left post as it slipped in past (former Timbers draft pick) Dan Kennedy to give the Swedish side a 1-0 lead at the half.

Early in the second half it was Lalawele Atakora, who had assisted on Lundberg’s goal in the first half, who would give AIK a two-goal lead when he slipped the ball past a charging Kennedy for the final goal of the match.

AIK will face San Jose in the early match on Thursday, while Chivas USA will face the Timbers later that evening.
